Overview
Semaglutide is an innovative medication primarily used to control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It belongs to a class of drugs known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. These drugs work by mimicking incretin, a natural hormone that stimulates insulin release, helping to regulate blood sugar. The major advantage of semaglutide is its convenience — it’s administered just once a week through an injection, making it a simpler option compared to other diabetes medications that require multiple doses throughout the day.
 
Precautions/Side Effects
Like all medications, compounded semaglutide can cause side effects. The most common are gastrointestinal symptoms, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and constipation. In some cases, more severe side effects may occur, such as pancreatic inflammation, vision changes or low blood sugar, especially when taken with other diabetes medications.
 
Semaglutide is not suitable for:
Individuals with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma.
Those with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2.
Patients with a history of severe gastrointestinal disease, including gastroparesis, as semaglutide can slow gastric emptying.
People under 18 years of age, as its safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established.
